The lateral stiffness of buildings
In this video I would like to talk about the lateral stiffness, frequency and main time period of an existing building that have a weak stiffness and can be shaken by a man.
To find out what is the problem, we conducted a simple dynamic test which can be called “forced vibration test”. We installed an accelerometer that can record acceleration of building and a displacement indicator gauge in the gap between two buildings that can show lateral relative displacement of buildings. Besides, we apply the lateral load by the body movement of a man here.
The building is a three-storey concrete building under construction with moment resistant frame with, three floors, 9 Columns, and total Height of 11.12 m. The section of all columns and beams are square with the dimensions that are shown in this table.
We applied the lateral load which is the body movement of a men and record the response acceleration of building. After signal processing, we find natural frequency and Main time period of building by acceleration record.
